Everything You Need

What if everything we have been straining to achieve in our spiritual lives has already been given to us? That is the striking claim at the heart of this message drawn from 2 Peter 1:3-11. Peter writes to believers who are being pulled away by false teaching, and his response is not a longer list of rules but a stunning declaration: through Christ, his divine power has already provided everything required for life and godliness. The Greek verb tense Peter uses is perfect, meaning a completed past action whose effects are still active right now. We are not building toward a foundation. We are already standing on one. From that foundation, Peter calls us to let seven qualities grow in increasing measure: moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly affection, and love. These are not distant virtues we must manufacture from nothing. They are already present in every genuine believer through the indwelling Holy Spirit. The work is not production but cultivation.
